Caravan renovation by a designer & photographer: Glamper Makeover Edition 5

Steffi takes us into the world of her caravan renovation with an exciting story, seen through the eyes of a designer and photographer.

Her "old Frenchman" is a Caravelair Brasilia from the 1990s, and this marks her second caravan renovation , based on valuable experience. In 2021, Steffi was expecting her third child, and the need for more space was obvious. In her search for the perfect vehicle, she fell in love with this nostalgic model. For Steffi, it was crucial to install a triple bunk bed and have a fixed seating area that did not have to be constantly reconfigured.

The vision behind the caravan renovation & inspiration

As a designer and photographer, Steffi surrounds herself with aesthetic things every day, which she uses as inspiration. Her clear vision of how the caravan should look after the renovation shaped the beginning of the renovation process.

During this time, many ideas arose spontaneously , especially in the area of decoration, where Steffi has a "see it before I love it" attitude. Her vision for the caravan was a bright, predominantly white ambience, complemented by natural tones and occasional black accents.

As a committed minimalist, she appreciates clear shapes and lines, and order and tidiness are essential for her. With five people in the caravan, it was important to Steffi to create enough storage space, including a special cupboard for toys.

This camping bathroom is hardly recognizable after the caravan renovation. Light colors give the small bathroom a lot more space. Discover the caravan renovation by a designer now in the Wildnest blog.

Best upgrade in the caravan

A particularly impressive upgrade after Steffi's caravan renovation is the transformation of the original double bunk bed into a spacious triple bunk bed.

This required an almost complete build-out, with Steffi's husband using his skills as an engineer to ensure technical precision.

Another highlight in the caravan is the indirect LED lighting, which, however, required a complete renovation of the electrics. These carefully thought-out changes not only give the interior more functionality, but also a modern and appealing atmosphere.

"Do it! You won't regret it!"

The colour concept

Steffi gives her caravan a distinctive identity through a well-thought-out color concept. Clear lines dominate, while white plays the main role, complemented by warm wood tones and subtle black accents that serve as highlights.

The love for illustrations and graphics can be felt in every detail, discreetly distributed throughout the entire caravan. This harmonious interplay creates a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.

3 upgrades that are part of every further caravan renovation

The first step of painting the entire trailer white may be tiring, but in the end it is worth the effort. During this process, the once alien trailer somehow becomes your own .

Investing in new upholstery and mattresses is essential for her, as it allows her to add a personal touch. No matter how good the old ones are, she doesn't want to know who has sat or lain on them.

Finally, she emphasizes the importance of a regular new exterior coat of paint , as this not only brings about a visual change, but also rounds off a loving and time-consuming renovation.

A failed experience in your caravan

Steffi and her family experienced an unpleasant moment when purchasing their vintage caravan.

During the routine inspection of the "old Frenchman" with a moisture tester , Steffi's husband noticed a point where he was skeptical. Despite several credible assurances from the seller that the caravan had not suffered any damage, they initially trusted it. Unfortunately, it later turned out that an entire corner behind the cupboard had to be completely replaced due to moisture .

According to Steffi, this disappointing experience should teach every camper never to blindly trust the seller and always to listen to their own gut feeling.

More projects?

Currently, Steffi has no further plans to renovate the caravan. However, when the children are older, they plan to switch back to a smaller size.
Their first caravan, a small Adria, is the ideal size for camping holidays for two.

Then I would like an upper floor with a roof terrace :D

Favorite campsite

Steffi and her family find it difficult to decide on a favorite campsite, as it depends on different needs. With three small children , they particularly appreciate entertainment and children's pools. However, La Rocca in Bardolino on Lake Garda is currently at the top of their list.
